Partial Downloads

Hi,

I have a very strange problem which for the life of me i cannot figure out. I have setup a webserver in house which allows both users in house and externally to connect to.

For info I am running IIS V5.1 and PHP 5.26 and running a MySQL database also.

Anyway my users can successfully connect to my server and download all the files they want perfectly fine when in the office (all located behind one firewall) however when they connect to the server remotely they can navigate and download small files as normal but when they attempt to download bigger files the download starts ok and says it completes howeevr the it only ever downloads about half the size of the file.

I know PHP has values to configure for script times and files size limits but i feel i have exhausted this area and have larger numbers in place.

I cant see how it is related to IIS as it works in the local network.

My only other option seems to be my firwewall but i wondered if anyone has seen a similar thing before and it it could be related to IIS?

Are the users downloading the files via a PHP script, or are they accessing the files directly?

Do you have log_errors set to On and error_reporting set to E_ALL? If so, are there any errors in the PHP error log? What about the IIS error log?

Hi,

thanks for your reply, its much appreciated.

i can see no messages in the logs, however i may not be logging all that i should.

I have done some further testing and it seems that every file will stop downloading after 5 minutes. I am only seeing this when out of the office because it take significantly longer to download the file when out of the office.

So this makes me think i am suffering from a timeout and i believe i have all the approriate values correct in php.ini so i feel the timeout is occuring in IIS5.1. I have already looked at the CGI timeout but i still have the same issue.

Do you have any ideas regarding what this could be?

Can you tell us the values of log_errors, error_log, and error_reporting from a phpinfo() output?

If you're logging all errors, and you don't see any warnings about a script exceeding a time limit (you should be using [man][man]set_time_limit/man anyway in this case to remove the time limit altogether), then we can at least rule the PHP interpreter out as the culprit.

It could very well be some sort of timeout in IIS. Have you checked the IIS error logs? How is PHP integrated with IIS - as an ISAPI module or FastCGI binary?

The following values are in my phpinfo()

log_errors = On On
error_log = c:\phperrors.txt c:\phperrors.txt
error_reporting = 6135 6135
