[RESOLVED] phpmyadmin - I can no longer login, but databases still work!

Hello. I am building a website that connects to a database using myphpadmin. About three days ago I could no longer log into the myphpadmin website (in order to look at my database). However, the website I am creating still accesses the myphpadmin database and continues to function as normal.

Please help!!!!

Do you get a login screen when you try to access phpMyAdmin? If so, are you using the same credentials as the web application is using? When you try to login, does phpMyAdmin return any SQL error messages (or any error messages at all)?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I get the usual login page when I attempt to do so on phpMyAdmin. I type in my login name and password which is identical to that stored in a config file used by the php coding (in the web pages) to access the database (which it does so successfully).

However, after pushing the "Go" button the page refreshes itself with no error messages displayed. This is the only difference, as I always previously logged in with no problems at all.

The phpMyAdmin does display a message at the bottom "Cannot load mcrypt extension. Please check your PHP configuration." However, this has always been there since day one and I understand is not an issue at all.

No. phpMyAdmin doesn't contain any data from your database - that's MySQL's job.

So, where exactly is the database stored? I have the phpmyadmin files in a directory that my website uses. Is it not the case that the database being used is also saved in the same directories as the phpmyadmin pages?

Adding to my last message. The database connect files that the php uses to connect to the database says that the address is 'localhost'. However, would you know if the 'localhost' is part of my installation of the myphpadmin or something else?

No, MySQL is storing the database (I forget where, but it's nowhere near phpMyAdmin).

Can be different locations where MySQL/data/ is.
Think you have some options, if you select Advanced install.
For example my MySQL data folder is in All Users
Probably because I chose not to make it private just for one Windows User.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users.WINDOWS\Application Data\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.1\data

As others have offered, it's in the "data" subdirectory of the main MySQL directory.

No, as I've explained above. But then again, think about what you're saying and you'll see it doesn't make sense. Where would the data be stored for those who use MySQL without using phpMyAdmin? Nowhere?

localhost resolves to the loopback interface of your network card (e.g. 127.0.0.1) in about every O/S I can think of. In other words, specifying "localhost" simply points to the computer itself.

I worked out where my database was accessing MySQL and reinstalled phpMyAdmin. Everything works well! 😃
