PHP ?? is that what i need

Hi there

Just a newbie here, and wondering if php and MySql would be what is needed to do the following.

We want to create a small application on a webpage, that when people go to this page, they would answer some questions, ex. Qty , 1 sided or 2 sided, colour or B&W.

Depending on what each answer is, a price would appear at the bottom.

Also could we then take what ever they filled out and send it to a shopping cart for payment?

I am trying to figure out how to do this.

When you have this form, create IF conditions to add the price together.

Learn the basics first... Or upload a shopping cart software to do it, or hire somebody.

You can definitely use PHP and MySQL to do what you need. In fact, the link you posted is coded in PHP. You could have a database with all the elements listed in your dropdown boxes and linked to each other (this would be the only complicated part) . Refresh it when the user changes the selection in one of the boxes using javascript (something very basic even if you havent seen what javascript looks like).

You wouldn't even need to refresh the page once a selection is made; populating select boxes based on user selections is one common use of AJAX.

bradgrafelman is right, AJAX would be ideal to make the page dynamic and you wouldn't have to refresh the page. You said you were a newbie and I didnt suggest AJAX, but if you do decide to go for it, i would recommend you to check out jQuery, as it really makes the interaction with AJAX really simple.

thanks, i looked at ajax, and have no idea what that is, is there any program that will help me do what i want? something that is easy??
