[RESOLVED] Updating mulitple rows

Hi all,

I am currently working on a jewellery retail website. The client needs to be able to increase or decrease the prices of all their products by a percentage, as the price of gold tends to fluctuate.

The amount of affected rows is going to be something close to 200, so I'm concerned about going backwards and forwards to and from the database that many times to update each price (in a loop, for example).

Can anyone help me with the best way to go about this?

If you have one table with one field 'price'
then you can easily UPDATE all rows in that table.
You just dont specify WHERE.

It is same with DELETE FROM.
If you do not tell what row to delete using WHERE
then all rows will be deleted.

So, you should be able to do something like this.

It looks as it is as simple as this.
So this would work nicely:

// k = 1 + percentage/100
$k = 1.10; // add 10% to all prices in table

$sql = "UPDATE tablename SET price = price * $k";
