[RESOLVED] Need help understanding this redirection code

I got this script from http://phphelper.wordpress.com. It is a solution to the "headers already sent" error. However, I don't really understand how the script works.

Javascript is not my thing but the script is a re-direction function basically i will comment on how the php works but the javascript my best assumption is it a browser re-direct .

No, it's not. It's a cheap workaround that uses Javascript to redirect a user. The solution to the headers already sent error is to do all of the processing that may need to send out HTTP headers before you send any output.

Note one problem I see in your post, however, is the use of curly quotes. Neither PHP nor Javascript will recognize these as string delimiters; instead, you must use normal double quotes (") instead.

So, if javascript is turned off in the user's browser, this redirect breaks, right?

Naturally, yes. If you end up relying on this form of redirect, you should include a link the user can follow in case they do have Javascript disabled.

Yeh, I gotta go back to the drawing board. I have a page that interacts with a database table, and displays the results in an HTML table.

Thus, by definition, the headers have already been sent. When the user is finished, I want to redirect him/her to a different page. I can't do this, so I'm up the creek.

Could somone at PHPBUILDER put an OBVIOUS button on the forum for "mark as solved?" Under thread tools, it is hard to find and I wouldn't have found it except for the message under bradgrafelman's post.

What do you mean, "when the user is finished?" When they're finished viewing the table? I would think you'd just want a "Return" link at the bottom of the page or something of that nature.

Also note that you can use [man]header/man to output a "Refresh:" HTTP header (before you output any data, of course) that will tell the user's browser to load a new page after a definable number of seconds (assuming they haven't disabled this functionality in their browser). Not sure I understand your situation, though, so I don't know if this applies at all.
