Good PHP site search script?

Hi everyone.

I've been looking everywhere for a good, free PHP search script to add to my site. The Google Custom Search just isn't what I'm looking for.
I just want a search that indexes my site, allows me to exclude directories I don't want, and fits right into my site (I.E. doesn't have its own template system.)

If you know of any, please share!

php dig its the only one i have ever used (apart from ones i wrote)

PHP Dig seems to be alright, but after testing it for a day or so it's not quite what I'm looking for.

Does anyone know of any others?

specifically?

your requirements may be such that no pre-made script match them 100% you may have to get some one to write one or alter one for you.

PHP Dig was good, all except for the fact that it just didn't read my META tags. It only reads the text in my body, which messes up which pages are ranked and shown as a search result.

Since you've used it before, maybe you can tell me, is there a way to get it to read META tags and use those to rank pages?

google doesn't use the meta tags for ranking either any more perhaps they know that. Its been some years since i used it so of hand i really have no idea, im sure it could be done if you know enough php to do it.

Well, I know very minimal PHP, so I can't change it. But it's alright. Even though Google rankings are important, I'm more worried about my site ranking than Google's. But I'm sure I can find a way around it.
