Verifying File Download

Hey All,

Been searching for a while, found some previous threads from 2005 saying it wasn't possible, but I'm hoping someones invented it in the past 5 years...

Basically I want to verify that a user has downloaded a file, is it possible?

I've already got code in place to flag the download link as being used when clicked, but I haven't got anything that actualy says whether the download was successful or not.

Is it possible to track how much of a file has been downloaded by somehow checking the size of the file in the users cache against that on the server?

I certainly hope this isn't possible; otherwise, that would imply that you could somehow write a script that can gain access to the files on my computer and analyze them.

I am not aware of a means to do so via JavaScript (though I am far from being a JS guru). I would guess that the best avenue of approach might be a download applet in Java or Flash.
