HELP REQUIRED SQL issue F*tal error: Allowed memory size of 157286400 bytes exhausted

I am getting the following error message, when trying to install an application onto my server:-

F*tal error: Allowed memory size of 157286400 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 40 bytes) in C:\vhosts\BBBBB.co.uk\httpdocs\spryflash\phpCore\classes\dbclass\CmyDB_class.php on line 205

I changed the following line to reflect the 150mb shown above, in the php.ini as below:-

memory_limit = 150M ; Maximum amount of memory a script may consume (150M😎

I am pretty sure the install doesnt take any more then the 150mb I have permitted, so Im sure its something else.

So Im pretty stuck, as very new to server technology. I am using PLESK 9.3 control panel with APACHE TOM CAT, on WINDOWS 2008 SR2 server.

I was asked to create the file for the install, which I did on PLESK. I dont have anything to get at the database itself, like MYSQL or Windows SQL server 2008, and would have no idea on how to run them.

Would prefer a more PLESK has ASP.NET, which looks pretty bad.

Does any one have any ideas?

Well, apparently something (or some things) within the install made the memory usage reach the 150M limit. What exactly is causing it, however, we can't begin to say without more information. Doing some profiling would help you discover which function/class/etc. is using the most memory.

In a pinch, however, you could also echo out [man]memory_get_usage/man in several places and watch for a large jump in allocated memory. When you find it, the code in between the two calls to memory_get_usage() might benefit from some optimizations.

Again, with no code and no profiling information, there's not much we can suggest (other than to do some profiling :p).

cheers for your quick response, what places and how can I disable the memory restrictions to stop it 'max-ing' out?

I have just tried doubling to 300mb, as below:-

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 314572800 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 262170 bytes) in C:\vhosts\bbbbb.co.uk\httpdocs\spryflash\phpCore\classes\exceptions\cbase_exception.php on line 55

I have no way of know how much memory is required, and therefore stuck.

I would prefer to be able to disable restrictions for the installation on a temporary basis.

Can you assist with this, and help would be greatly appreciated.

While you can disable memory limit restrictions by setting the directive's value to -1, it's definitely not recommended unless you have no other choice.

As I said, you can use profiling or simply echo out memory_get_usage() in several places to track the progression of memory usage.

Just out of curiosity, does this install do any work on an existing database with large tables? Or does it try to TAR or ZIP up large files? If not, this is a pretty weird error to be getting. It's been my experience that installing an app usually doesn't require enormous amounts of memory because the files and db tables are quite small.

An upgrade, on the other hand, might have to deal with large collections of files or large volumes of data.
