[RESOLVED] select non repeating values

hi,
i have a column containing a list of dates (2010-01-31).
i want to print out the year only.
what is the sql statement to make this happen, thanks?

eg.
date
2010-01-31
2010-02-11
2009-01-22
2008-12-27
2010-11-12

wish to achieve this result:
2008
2009
2010

Since you didn't mention which DBMS you are using you will get a standard sql solution

select distinct extract(year from dateColumn)

i think this statement is wrong: $A = $arrayRow["column_date"];
it should not be column_date.
how can i echo out the result?

the outcome is correct. Now how can i display it properly on the page?

And there's the answer to your question; the field in the result is called "EXTRACT(YEAR FROM receive_date)".

If that's too much to write, you could use an alias: writing "EXTRACT(YEAR FROM receive_date) AS year" in the query would cause the field in the result to be called "year".

You could also use YEAR() instead of EXTRACT() for a slightly shorter query string.
