New host and my codes dont work!

Hello there, Here's my problem. I did just buy a new webhost. I did have a free host before and now i just did buy a webhost however my problem is this. ALL my codes work on the free webhost but when i did just copy and paste to the other server, MANY MANY syntax error showed...

And its very weird syntax error i think but u guys maybe know.

Here's one error thats weird.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /customers/crimeit.se/crimeit.se/httpd.www/forum.php  on line 1

But in line 1 in forum.php it is : <?php

How can it be an unexpected end?!

PLEASE help me..

Copy and paste the first few lines of the file 'forum.php'.

Forum.php is 600+ line so its big but there's some of the first codes..

Can you rename forum.php to forum.php.txt (or something similar, so it has a .txt file extension) and attach it to your next post?

Also, is this forum.php being called directly (e.g. you're going to http://mysite.com/forum.php) or is it being included from another file?

Actually, no I can't... that site is blocked by a corporate web filter for "Pornography". :o Can you not attach files to your posts? (Can't remember if this is part of the new user restriction or not.)

Sure, but you should be able to attach files directly to your post. If you click "Post Reply" (e.g. don't use the Quick Reply box), under the "Additional Options" section (underneath the box where you compose your reply) there should be a "Manage Attachments" button that will let you upload your forum.php file if you rename it to have a .txt file extension.

Not sure what to say... there are no syntax errors in the file you posted, it's not ecnoded using UTF-8 or anything like that, and you say that it's not being included in any other file?

Which version of PHP is your new host running?

Also, is this the actual file you have on your server? Copying and pasting can mask some problems (e.g. UTF-8 files with a BOM at the beginning). If nothing else, I'd say try re-uploading the files to your server using binary mode rather than ASCII.

Try creating a simple file called phpinfo.php that contains nothing but this:

So creating a phpinfo.php file worked fine, and yet the file you posted (which passed a -l lint check when I downloaded it) doesn't?

Try deleting the forum.php file on your server, re-creating a new file on your computer, pasting in the contents of the old forum.php, and re-uploading it to your server. See if you still get the same error message.

WOW! It worked! I did delete the file from the server created a new and the copyed it again..

BUT its still many files that have syntax, So u mean i need to do this on all files?

I have no idea... if all of the errors talk about an unexpected $end on the first line, then that is likely the solution.

Sounds like the files got corrupted somehow when they were uploaded.

Can u help me with one fast thing?

Just answer this, When members log in there status change's to Online.. BUT if they dont log out manuelly the status still will be Online even if he/she's computer is off. So.. how can i do so the user logs out after like 15 min or something.. IF he/she is inactive?

One way to handle this is to have all user activity (e.g. each page load) update a "status" table of some sort with their user id and the current timestamp.

When polling for online users, you'd get rid of any rows whose timestamps are greater than 15 minutes ago... e.g.

DELETE FROM online_users WHERE datetime < (NOW() - INTERVAL 15 MINUTE)

You'd have to ask some DB gurus, however, if this is the best approach.
