query matching

I am trying to create some sort of couple matching. I have 2 tables namely Boy and Girl which both have the same fields which is shown below

ID
Name
Age
Birthdate
Bith Sign
Hobbies
Interests

Now I am having a difficulty on how can I display the result of the matching and the result must be in ranking order.

For example the result should somehow look like this.

| John | Sarah | 1 |

| John | Sammy | 3 |
| John | Donna | 4 |
| John | Tanya | 5 |

Any idea on how can this be done? Thanks

Why, then, did you split up the data into two separate tables?

EDIT: Also, I believe we mentioned this before, but you're going to have to define what "in ranking order" is supposed to mean. Ranked according to what?

I want to rank them according to the sample fields I provided above.

In the web form, the fields for Birth Sign, Hobbies and Interests are in drop down format so that I can limit the answer of the users therefore the matching process will be easier i guess.

I split up the data based on their gender and later on I plan to join the two tables together for the matching but right now I do not have any idea on what will be my sql query for the matching process.

So are we matching every boy to every girl? Sounds like you'd be generating a cartesian product if you did (not a good thing). For example, if you have 100 boys, every one matched to each of 100 girls, you'd be generating 100*100=10,000 results...

As bradgrafelman asked: "ranked according to what"? You've given us the names of some fields but that's hardly enough to go on.

I for one have no idea how "birth sign" would be used to decide if Boy1 would prefer GirlA over GirlB. And, to be honest, I have no burning desire to.

It sounds like what you're asking for here is problem domain knowledge rather than programming.
