[RESOLVED] change localhost name

I noticed that when I am testing my website locally the urls is http://localhost/myweb or http://127.0.0.1/myweb.

Is it possible to change the 127.0.0.1 or localhost part into another name for example http://greedyisgood.com/myweb.

If by "locally" you mean on your personal computer, there is one simple trick you could do that would make "greedyisgood.com" (and perhaps "www.greedyisgood.com" ?) resolve to 127.0.0.1 (your local computer).

Depending upon your operating system, you can manually add this host entry into your local DNS configuration. Which operating system are you using (and if Windows, please don't just say "Windows" - there are many different versions of it)?

yes. I am using windows 7 professional 32 bit

Edit your C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts file

127.0.0.1 localhost (currently)

change to
127.0.0.1 MyGreatSite

or anything else you like, does not have to be a valid domain name

Although I believe/hope that the "localhost" name is resolved regardless of whether or not its in the HOSTS file, I still wouldn't recommend altering that entry.

Just add a new one on a line below any other entries.
