Network Printer

HI, could anyone help me how I can print a form to a local network printer? I mean somebody visit my web site e write my form page now I need at the end page a button with a script that after you click it the form is printed to a specific network printer automatically without open any windows printer dialog...... It's possibile? and how can do it?....

Yes, it's possible but it's pretty advanced and you should consider hiring a sysadmin to set it up for you. We've been doing that for the last five years on our site. When an order comes in overnight, it gets printed to our printer 2000 miles away. When we come in in the morning, there is a stack of invoices sitting on the printer.

You need to learn about CUPS and how to invoke the printer from a Unix command line. This involves adding the printer to the CUPS config and learning about the lp command in Unix. That's the hard part of the job. One you have that working, then you can use PHP to execute the lp command. If your form is just a bunch of fields, then you're going to need to format it into some standard format first like PDF, JPG, PNG, GIF, or even simply TXT.

Hire a developer. This is probably not a task for a beginner.

And that's assuming that you already know three things: 1) the webserver is able to establish communication with the printer in question (e.g. firewalls/routers/etc. aren't getting in the way), 2) your webserver is a *nix based O/S, and 3) you actually have access to the required programs (e.g. CUPS).

the platform is based on window server 2003 and I need a simply form with command, could anyone compile it for me?

If it is a Windows Server you can use the printer extension -- I believe I have yet to do this, but as far as I know this is what should work.
