I've had this idea which I'd like to try and I thought I could do it using a database and a php script. However being completely inexperienced and untutored in PHP I am looking for some help here. I have not even got a clue how to start so hopefully you guys will understand from my description.
I have, in the past, used php scripts which show random pictures from a folder when that page is displayed and they have worked as forum signatures. On one forum I use people are incredibly active and there are thousands of members. To keep people updated on whether I'm online or not I want to post a picture saying online or offline in my sig. However I don't want to have to keep changing it in case I forget and leave it overnight with people thinking I'm online and trying to contact me. What I would like the script to do is the following:
When I visit a page it asks me how long I want picture A to display. If I enter 60 it shows that picture for 1 hour. Once the hour is up it shows picture B instead. Picture B then displays until I go to the page and tell picture A to display for x amount of time.
If the above is not possible then the other solution would be a preset amount of time and when the page is loaded it shows for that amount of time.
