MOD Rewrite ... Multiple Pages

Hello,

I have mod rewrites set up so that the links on my website reflect the name of a news article rather than php?id=17217. Everything works really well, but I am having trouble now with articles that are several pages long.

I know how to pass along the page information when using the id method (php?id=17217&p=2), but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it using mod rewrites.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you very much.

you can still pass it the same way:

domain.com/news-article-name?p=2

Or you could route everything to index.php and look at the URL parts. You could then do urls like:

domain.com/articles/news-article-name/page/1
domain.com/articles/news-article-name/page/2

You'd have to parse the url that way; however, it can look cleaner than ?p=2 or whatever.

Thanks so much for the help. I've decided to go the ?p route and have a question. Here's my link:

The Modrewrite runs from /article all the way to ?page. For some reason, I am having trouble grabbing the page number with a get function when the script runs.

Here's the code I use to grab the page number:

if ( (isset($GET['page'])) && (is_numeric($GET['page'])) ) {

$pagenumber = $_GET['id'];

}

Any thoughts? I really appreciate the help. Thanks!

Yeah... you check to see if $GET['page'] is set, yet you use $GET['id'] as the value of $pagenumber. I think it should be $_GET['page'].

Thanks again for your assistance. That was actually a mistype. Sorry about that. Assuming I have that correct:

if ( (isset($GET['page'])) && (is_numeric($GET['page'])) ) {

$pagenumber = $_GET['page'];

}

Can you think of any other reason it wouldn't work? Thanks so much! I really appreciate it!

Assuming that code is correct, I could only say that then you're not using $pagenumber correctly later on in the script.

We'd have to see the rest of it to really debug it.
