array search and replace

with the following array

$array = ([1zxc] => 'a/abc/m.htm', [2zac] => 'b/attachment/d.htm', [3c] => 'd/dsds/hre23.htm', [4zac] => 'k/attachment/d.htm');

How can i replace in the array all '/attachment/' for '/attach/' and get...?

$array = ([1zxc] => 'a/abc/m.htm', [2zac] => 'b/attach/d.htm', [3c] => 'd/dsds/hre23.htm', [4zac] => 'k/attach/d.htm');

Use [man]array_walk/man with a function that uses something like [man]str_replace/man to do the replacement.

However, I did a mistake asking for the replacement. I need the following...

$Sarray = ([1zxc] => 'a/abc/m.htm', [2zac] => 'b/attachment/d.htm', [3c] => 'd/dsds/hre23.htm', [4zac] => 'k/attachment/d.htm');

replacing za for TW

$Sarray = ([1zxc] => 'a/abc/m.htm', [2TWc] => 'b/attachment/d.htm', [3c] => 'd/dsds/hre23.htm', [4TWc] => 'k/attachment/d.htm')

Presume I have to unset the 2zac and 4zac... How is the fastest way to do it?

I don't know what the "fastest" way is, but one possible solution would be to use the second form of the [man]foreach[/man] loop (the $key => $value syntax) to loop through the array key=>value pairs and check each key to see if it contains 'za' and, if so, copy the value into a new array index and then [man]unset/man the old one.

If you unset array elements while stepping through that array doesn't it kill the foreach loop? I have a feeling I had this issue once before but it may have been in C# 🙂

In other languages that place more of the memory-management burden on the user? Yes.

In PHP? No. (Hint: read the manual for [man]foreach/man - the loop is working on a copy of the original array.)
