Ping Website, IF Statement

Hi All,
Simply what i want is to ping the ip address of my other site: [69.175.121.66] and check if it is online via an if statement so if would see if the ip is online, else { header("Location: offline.php") }.

Is it possible, if it isnt possible in php, how about javascript.

and yes i know this isnt a javascript forum.

I found out that exec and socket create are blocked on my hosting account so i dont think it is possible in php. :-(

If you have access to both servers have the first access a file on the second. The script on the second could do any checks, if needed. And if you need to keep other people out of it just bury it in some oddly named folders and give it a odd name.

Thats true, if i make a txt file on the second that says 'yes' then i can put a simple if statement that reads that file and sees if it says 'yes'. Could you help me write that?

How about just checking the existence of the webURL (or may be the homepage in case you want to ping). Find something similar here.
