php script to create xml playlist

Hello,
I'm still new at this and I need help in creating a php script to create a xml playlist from a folder containing .flv files stored on a remote server.

I have my website on a hosting package off site and I am using Red5 which is located here on my servers at my house. At the moment I am able to connect to my red5 server to play the flv files from a playlist stored on my red5 server from an "archive page" on my website but I need to add the IP address and port number to my red5 server not only in the call to the playlist file but also within the playlist itself for location of each flv file. Though that works fine, everytime a new flv file is created from the broadcast portion of my website I need to go and manually update the playlist.xml file that resides on my red5 server so that the new files can be viewed from the "archived" section of my website.

can a php script be created that can reside on my website and this can access the red5 server remotely to build and store the playlist.xml file on my website that way the only time the IP address and port numbers are needed they can be within the playlist file.

does the playlist have to saty on the red5 server with the files and if so can this script rebuild the xml file everytime a new flv file is created or when someone loads the page can it automatically run so to create an updated playlist.xml file?

Please help if you can...I am soooooo lost!!!

you should be able to grab the xml playlist file, read that out, and create links accordingly.

I'm not sure what exactly the overall intention is though, as I'm a Red5 noob (never heard of it).

all requests would go over the internet, even local ones I think, which could be less efficient.

It might be a good idea to set up an APACHE server on the Red5 server if possible, and simply putting all logic on there.

Red5 is simply just like Flash Media Server but is offered for free from red5.org

I know how to set up the xml file with the links and I have done that but what I am looking to do is to have a script do that for me so I dont have to manually do that everytime a new flv file is generated.

OK. then you require a local application or server. This would allow reading out the dir (finding all flv files), and can then create an xml file for you. I doubt this can be done without running a server locally.

my red5 server is local...I own the server here at my house and I installed Red5 on it because it is a server application and I was not allowed to install it where I host the website

I have been running php on my servers for about 7 years now....sorry I wasnt more clear...I guess I didnt explain what I needed too well

Allright good. Then the folder in which you hold all the FLV files needs to get a PHP file, something like list.php for instance. This should be remotely accessible.

You have two choices here -- one is writing an XML file. This would index your FLV files once, then save it to an XML file. Refreshing the XML file would be done by reopening list.php. The other is spoofing an XML file, this would index your FLV file on each request (thus might be high load!), the output of list.php would be XML format, so list.php would actually become your XML file.

Also, we'd need to know the format of the XML file. Can you post a small copy of the xml file here so we know how you want it?

OK here is the xml file as it stands now and works...I replaced the IP address and Port number for obvious reasons and I replaced the file names because that will all change when I remove the test flv files anyhow

OK I think I posted that wrong because it tried to make links even with replacing everything with [ ]......sorry I'm not that good at coding.....I'm much better at the server end of things

glob - finds files
basename - gives the filename part of a path/to/file string
for / foreach - iterates over an array
operators - click on both "assignment" and "string" operators. you need = and . operators
file_put_contents - if you wish to generate an xml file once, which can be retrieved many times
echo - if you wish to generate the XML every time and output it directly
header - also needed for "echo approach". example: header('content-type: application/xml; charset=utf-8')
