Writing to a log file with fopen

Hi all,

I have a script that writes data to a text file. The file gets populated with the required data but when the script runs i get the following message:

Warning: fopen(/var/www/vhosts/mydomain/httpdocs/lgw/arriveOutPut.txt) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain/httpdocs/lgw/lgwfidsRAW.php on line 224

Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain/httpdocs/lgw/lgwfidsRAW.php on line 226

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /var/www/vhosts/mydomain/httpdocs/lgw/lgwfidsRAW.php on line 227

The code I am using is below, If I did not have the permssions set correctly I would not be getting the files populated, or am I wrong.

Can anyone see why this should be happening.

No. Either data is written to file, or you don't get that error message. Which means that something else is happening, such as you looking in the wrong place (the error doesn't have to do with this particular file), or you just believe something was written (due to similar data being there allready).

What would happen if you did this?

I have replaced my code with yours and I now get the following error:

The data is getting written to the correct file. An example of the data in the "arriveOutPut.txt" file is:

2010-09-10 11:48:02 BE803 1600 1600 PI Scheduled 1600

The file gets updated every minute. If I were to delete the file content, after one minute new data is written to it again which is what I would expect.

If I echo the file this is what I see:

This is very odd.

with

echo 'Really failed to fopen ' . $arriveFile . '<br/>'; 
die('stopped before writing to the file') ;

lets see the spirit plays still or not 😉..

I suspect there is a cronjob runs and that upadtes this file.not your script you test.
lets verify..change the file names and check.

$departFile = "/var/www/vhosts/mydomain/httpdocs/lgw/departOutPutNew.txt";
