how do I tell my mySQL db to have referential integrity between two tables?

I have user_entity_ID in my users table and in my entities table. In entities, it is the primary key. there can be several users to one entity but there cannot be any users without an entity.

Sounds like you want to set up foreign keys, assuming you're using the InnoDB engine. Try Google'ing for some simple "foreign key relationship" tutorials/guides/articles/etc.

Ahh, can I use the innodb engine just for the affected tables and myisam for the rest? otherwise I will lose the advantages of myisam?
