Cakephp and APC

Hi All,
I am a bit of a newbee developer but recently tried doing some bits and bobs to my site and was really suprised how quickly I was able to learn.

I am on to my biggest challenge. I had a flash game website built by a company in cakephp and when I hosted on a shared server it was pretty slow takes about 12-14 seconds to load the home page URL.

I have been reading about APC and using it to significantly speed up php websites. I downloaded it from here: http://pecl.php.net/package/APC

Is there anyone who can tell me what I need to do with this file after I have downloaded it? Can I just extract the code in to a .php file in public folder?

Anyhelp would be really appreciated 🙂

A PECL extension has to be installed, with the specifics depending on the platform. With a Windows system you can simply(?) copy the DLL file and enable it in the PHP configuration and restart the web server, whereas other on other platforms you may need to recompile PHP from source code, including the new extension.

Then you're only halfway there (+/- 40% ?), as you'll next need to figure out how and where to use the extension's functions.
