Help needed with this

I dont know if this is placed in the right place, if not just move it or remove.

We have a small Mesh network in our nabourhood and we want to offer people a "Sky Drive" basically mapping to a network drive on the community server so they can have additional storage for files, photos, documents etc.

We want it to be a "self help" system, i.e. They go to the default intranet site Click on "Create Sky Storage" and fill in a form that then creates the Directory in a pre-specified location on the NAS or SAN storage devices, creates the user and sets permissions and voila they have there own "Sky Drive"

Then by using the "Map Network Drive" facility on their OS, they can have permanent access to the drive or they can have access via their browser.

Permissions for users must be Read, Write and Create, they must not be able to run any scrips (for obvious reasons)

The question is, Does such a PHP script already exist or should I get a developer to create it from scratch?

If your server is running Apache PHP MySQL you can process the form, setup users, set permissions and create directories. As well you can use PHP to access the directory and file structure and with javascript you can even make it act and look just like the windows file management system while blocking executable files.

But you can not get php or javascript to map a network drive. You would need to a different language that is for building windows software.

I do not know of any programs that would work for you. You may want to find a forum that deals more with intranet server configurations.

I have managed to do this using a PHPscript to create a space through MS ftp which creates the space, the user and sets the correct permissions for the user.
The User then uses their OS to "Map to Network Drive" feature to show the connection on their "My Computer" gui. I have also managed to create a PHP script that then connects to the ftp user space using their browser, Problem solved now I just need to make it look good.
