String case

I have a form in which people enter their name. Some enter it in all caps, some all lowercase, and others in title case. I need them all to be submitted in title case (first letter of each word capitalized). Is there a PHP function that will change the case?

You could use:

$name = ucwords(strtolower($name));

However, note that "PETER O'TOOLE" would then become "Peter O'toole". and "Pierre duPont" would become "Pierre Dupont". This is probably why you often see mail lists and such simply output names in all caps (e.g. with the strtoupper() function).

... or why you see others that simply spit the name out exactly as the user typed it. After all, why should you care about making the person's name look good if they don't? :p
