Good and precise guide to asking questions

First off, thanks to dagon who posted the link in this post.
While I've allready read a bunch of "before posting, read this", "Smart Questions" gave me a bunch of good new insights. I believe that document to be clear, precise and cover pretty much everything.

So, apart from thanking dagon, I'd like to suggest it as a sticky candidate in the newbie section.

While this post is obviously a good read as well especially since it includes some advice specific to this forum, I find that its format makes it harder to read.
But the main advantage of "Smart Questions" is that it very clearly explains not just how to behave, but also explicitly states why.

Perhaps it would even be possible to have the best of two worlds combined: some concise forum specific information along with a link to "Smart Questions"?

It pretty much is a sticky since laserlight is all over the place and it's been in the signature for a few years.

On a side note it's not a good idea to email that link out in response to questions.

One day I will stop be amazed at how some people ask questions on this forum. I can't imagine they go to their doctor and say "I'm broke, fix me"

This is true ... recently (well, this year, anyways), my doctor went to a hospital to have something "routine" done.

He died as a result.

I need a good punchline ... my wife doesn't like doctors much. 😃

Obviously, some old rival from medical school really didn't like him for being so good, heheh.

Well, the old saying is that doctors make the worst patients, and a patient who dies is definitely a bad patient. :evilgrin:
