Edit Flat File Database

hello everyone,

     before i ask my question just to let you know that I'm using FFD because the host I'm using at the moment does not have MySQL so until They get MySQL or I decide to get another host I'm stuck with FFD which i don't mind..

now to my question.. I want to edit a line from the database using id's

my ffd consist of id||username||title||datetime||message

and not sure on how to get it so it displays the content of each of them inside of a form and be able to edit it.. so I am asking for some help.. I been searching google.com for a few hours and couldn't find what I'm looking for..

can someone help me please?

Do they allow you to use SQLite?

not sure but I kinda wanna stick with FFD for right now and maybe learn SQLite after i get this scripting done tho. then update to it.

If you already know SQL (e.g., the MySQL dialect) then you might as well go with SQLite immediately; the learning curve to get started for the SQLite dialect is minimal.

If you really want to stick with your own file format, then look into the use of [man]file/man, [man]explode/man and [man]file_put_contents/man, but then you have to think about what happens if your users use "||" as part of the input.

Well i already thought of that i made it where it will check to see if them chars are used if so then it will report back as an error and tell them they can't use ||

Whereas if you used SQLite you would not have this problem, and the related problem of embedded newline characters.

In fact, you might just be better off using a CSV format for your flat file with [man]fgetcsv/man and [man]fputcsv/man.
