Hello

I have been looking on the internet were long, i cant seems to find the right thing.
It coud be nice if some one coud point my the right way , thanks.

i am working on a project, where marby a user buy a item in a php browser game, and then it takes fx. 5 mins to get to him.

but my problem is that if the user log out or close browser, i still want the website/game to countdown on the timer, and auto add a number in mysql. fx: table: [Stock]-[user-id]-[+1].

so please give help me the right way , with a name / link or something , that i coud use in the matter. the site needs to be holding fx 1000-2000 players.

timestamp,AJAX,javascipt?

I'm not sure that I've got the requirements understood completely.

But it should be simple enough to add a UNIXTIME or DATETIME field to the database and have it checked by some script. If you're using Javascript and they close the browser ... it disappears 😉

yes sorry got some spelling problems, i was thinking about adding a time database , but then i also need a some sort of script that will continus when users browser is closed or logout. so when the time left is finish it will still add a number in users stock table.

Is this adjusted number important to anyone else besides the user that closed their browser?

If it isn't, you could make the adjustment at their next log-in.

Otherwise, yes, you need a script called; perhaps cron(8) on a Unix/Linux type system.

well kind of yes, as i can read, its bad to be runing cron, for ever user ingame. it will require to much energy.

Well, so far as mankind has determined, there is no effect with a cause (except, possibly, for those annoying e-mail forwards, but that's something for another forum).

So, either the server does this "itself" at the behest of the cron daemon ("Task Scheduler" for you Microsofties out there) or another daemon (a program that you or someone else writes that runs continuously to do this job for you), or you have some other event to cause the server to do the update. What other events do you have? Events that are initiated by your users ....

I Am Not An Expert; but I can't think of anything else.
