[RESOLVED] Unable to access c:\php as document root

I installed PHP and it worked. default document root is d:\ program files apache htdocs
I used httpd conf to change htdocs to C:\PHP but the browser tells me.

I have
WindowsXP sp3
drive c: is FAT32 -- d: is NTFS

FAT does not have any permission capabilities so I look at that like :eek:
I do not know what to do .. .

And starting httpd I get notice about missing msvrct.dll
And my chat IM tells that too. :queasy:

If this is Apache (and I assume so, because you mention httpd), then the reason you can't access "/" is because there is no index.html file there. See httpd.conf, probably "INDEXES" is not set on the DOCUMENT_ROOT in that file.

Try making a very simple "index.html" in your document root and see.

Also, why C:\PHP ? Is that were PHP is installed, or a blank folder?

c:\php is my *.php store directory.

There are two options to change default htdoc folder.

DocumentRoot "C:/PHP"
<Directory "C:/PHP">

I did not set the second one.
It seems you pointed me to the right direction.

I did not remember there are two options to change htdoc folder.
So it is solved now.

When index.html missing, I can see and choose any file in folder to run. I do not use index.html on my PC server(local)

That's because there aren't - there is only one way to change the document root (coincidentally the directive is called DocumentRoot).

The <Directory> directive is something entirely different.

But there is something to consider.
My htdoc folder does not work when those two options are not the same:

DocumentRoot "C:/PHP"
<Directory "D:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs">

My folder only works when

DocumentRoot "C:/PHP"
<Directory "C:/PHP">

That's because you're setting the document root to a folder that has no matching <Directory> tag that allows access to it. You can (and probably do) have multiple <Directory> tags within a number of .conf or .htaccess files.

So directory tag defines access.
I do not think I have multiple directory tags in those two files, because I did not set it.
