Error: Unable to connect to mysql

Hi
I'm new to php and mysql world. I downloaded an open source discussion board. It asks Database name , DB Username and password while configuring for the first time. i entered database name as 'fluxbb' and the username as 'root' the password is null. but i got the below error. how can fix it??

Error: Unable to connect to MySQL and select database. MySQL reported: Unknown database 'fluxbb'.

Did you create the database first? (Typically, many install programs require you to create the database first, though it will then create the tables within it.)

No, it did not require me to create. it just askd the database name, user name n password. what u mean is we sud create a database first n then only we have to mention that DB name while configuring or intalling is it???

Yes. At least, that's the way apps like WordPress do it, so I'm guessing this one does, too.
