Abstraction layer

i currently am planning to start a large scale framework that is mainly for enterprise development with php.

The question i have contains to the model layers and what is a proven better and overall faster option for a database abstraction layer PDO? , ADOdb? in a large scale application sense?.

this will be used with a mapper pattern that will control and manag various aspects of communicating with a relational database such as mysql , mysqli , postgres, etc... and so on...

Please i'am look for the most tested and fasted solution that aswell can scale well.

While I would agree that there is little incentive I can see for creating yet another framework unless there is something unique about your situation you've not told us, if you really feel the need to, maybe you could incorporate PHP ActiveRecord for the DB abstraction?
