Developer Needed to build Bar Code Reader and Generator System

We are a gaming console repair center and need a bar code reading system integrated into our PHP service ticket system. Do to our game console traffic of 100 plus consoles each week, I want to speed things by doing following.

Ability to read all game console bar code to track, New Service, Warranty Repairs, and service parts inventory.

PS. We had a small generic system built in india and currently seeking a usa developer to complete the system. We own several location so for the right person this will be huge project. The developer will be considered for more works on the successful completion of this project.

You don't really need a "bar code" system. Any modern USB bar code scanner ( < $100) will read a bar code and output the characters to whatever application/field currently has focus. No software is required other than a driver. Likewise, there are plenty of free apps out there to print out bar codes.

The only thing a PHP developer might help you with is to build a customized tracking system, though there are all sorts of open source issue tracking systems out there as well. The last one I tried is Zentrack, which was nice, but difficult to implement in some ways.

Probably not, if you still think it will be a "huge system". Part of my point is that your requirements aren't specific enough to judge the scope of the project. A service management system could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few years, depending on what you want to accomplish. These projects also tend to grow once people realize the potential usefulness.

For example, you start out just wanting to store and look up bar codes and the related service history. It could be a simple 2-table/2-function system. But then you decide you need a number of custom reports. Oh, and by the way, users need to have a way of logging in so you can securely track who is performing the service. Oh, and also...etc.
