Probably not, if you still think it will be a "huge system". Part of my point is that your requirements aren't specific enough to judge the scope of the project. A service management system could take anywhere from a few weeks to a few years, depending on what you want to accomplish. These projects also tend to grow once people realize the potential usefulness.
For example, you start out just wanting to store and look up bar codes and the related service history. It could be a simple 2-table/2-function system. But then you decide you need a number of custom reports. Oh, and by the way, users need to have a way of logging in so you can securely track who is performing the service. Oh, and also...etc.
