I've got a rego form where i don't want robots/crawlers to dumb data into my database, i've my a strong code to check for data but is there another way of checking this other than via a captcha?

Two steps, basically:

1. Create a valid robots.txt file.

2. Implement a CAPTCHA of some sort (this should be done anyway).

Just visiting the form shouldn't cause data to be entered in your DB. Bots shouldn't submit any forms on your page AFAIK. You could also take a peek at the user-agent of your visitor and return 410 'gone' if it's a bot.

Robots.txt is probably the easiest way, but will only keep out well-mannered bots.
