I just finished assembling a new workstation and must install a chat client so I can speak AIM/YIM/MSNM/WTF/BBQ to whoever via chat. I've been using Trillian for years but now they are forcing me to create an 'astra' account whatever that is and this is kind of a deal breaker. I have enough accounts and I don't want any more.

Can anyone recommend a good unified chat client for Windows 7?

Forcing you to create an Astra account is a dealbreaker? Astra is just another chat medium, you aren't being forced to USE it, simply have an account. Get over that and go back to using the best chat client you can get on Windows.

I'm using Pidgin. I like it a lot better than Trillian.

The only thing missing from Trillian 5 (yes, the beta is out) is OTR which Pidgin has. So I use Trillian 5 on my personal computers and Pidgin with OTR at work.

I hate that Trillian requires me to create yet another account to add to the pile of millions that I already have. I wonder if they sell one's email address for profit...
