practical applications for fget?

Hello Everyone,

I was reading the php manual about fget and have used their examples successfully, but I don't know why I would use it. Can someone explain to me why/when and in what practical applications I would use it? Any info would help.

For one, there is no function called "fget" - perhaps you meant [man]fgets/man (or one of the other similar functions)?

Taking fgets() as an example, it's practical application would be any situation in which you want to "[get a] line from file pointer" just as the manual says.

Right, thank you for the correction.
I got the information from the manual as well. I'm trying to figure out in what situation I would need to [get a] line from a file pointer.

I just cant think of any applications where I could use it.

And what's wrong with that? PHP has a function to find the "Inverse hyperbolic cosine" given a value in radians, but I personally haven't had to use it in any of my projects that I can think of.

That's my question. I can't think of any applications, but that doesn't mean I won't use it. If I learn the type of applications it can be used on then I can consider using it.

May I ask you if you use it? And if so, what type of applications do you use it on?

I can't really name a specific "type" of application where I'd use it... just like I couldn't tell you what "type" of application I'd want to use echo/print. It's one of the core I/O functions, so if I have need to read a file line-by-line then I'd use either [man]fgets[/man] or [man]file[/man].
