How to fetch and show international (chinese) characters in PHP?

I have saved data in chinese characters in a mysql table field with collation: utf8_general_ci. I copied/pasted text (from phpmyadmin) and it saved and displayed correctly. But when i have to fetch and show this field's contents it shows a string of "?". I wonder how to show the correct chinese characters. Please help.

set the web page encoding and mysql connection to utf8

Ok i got it. May be it will help somebody else.

Set the table field's collation to utf8_..., e.g utf8_general_ci in the database.
in php while fetching the results:
mysql_query("SET character_set_results=utf8");
$result = mysql_query($query); / as usual. /
set this meta tag under <head> section in html: <meta http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
