Unicode characters in .htaccess.

Hi guys,

I want to insert unicode characters, infact chinese, in the .htaccess file. I have a line similar to this for english version in it:

RewriteRule ^{this-is-my-social-networking-website$} /article1_EN.php

and below that i want to write a line like this:

RewriteRule ^{这个-是-我和社会联网，网站$} /article1_MD.php

Is this possible? In fact i want to be fully sure of how will it done before i do this because the site is live and has heavy traffic and the client can not afford issues, except for a while in the non-peak hours. Please help. Thanks

Based on this, I think you would need to use hexadecimal (\xhh) notation (per character) instead of ^{这个-是-我和社会联网，网站$.}

A bit Googling has revealed several people asking the same question, but no 100% satisfactory answers.

Ok, i am testing it locally. This is my .htaccess file contents:

AddDefaultCharset UTF-8

RewriteEngine on

RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^{this-is-my-social-networking-site$} /tmp/test1.php

ç in UTF-8

RewriteRule ^\x4E30$ /tmp/test1.php

And this url:
http://localhost:8080/tmp/丰
gives this message: The requested URL /tmp/丰 was not found on this server.

Whereas this works:
http://localhost:8080/tmp/this-is-my-social-networking-site

I got the code 4E30 for “丰” from http://www.khngai.com/chinese/charmap/tbluni.php?page=0

Did you read the page linked above? It's not "\xhhhh", it's "\xhh". Try splitting the hex code up into groups of two.

^\x4E\x30$

and

^\x{4E30}$

still same result.
