Hi, i'm totally new and battling through php files to set up my website.
I wanted to install Google Analytics into the functions.php file of the Aparatus [sic] Wordpress theme, so I followed instructions and added the Analytics code into the bottom of the functions.php file.
When I tried to update the file, it said "syntax error: unexpected T_STRING in line 244"
[line 244 is about 50 lines before the end of the file text]
So I went back and deleted all of the code I had added, and hit update.
Still the same error.
So I went to the functions.php file in the theme download folder in my Downloads, and coped the (presumably untouched original) code from functions.php and pasted it in - still the error.
So I downloaded the theme again and copied the text again - still the error.
I'm totally boggled because I used brand new text and there's still an error?
So confused - does anyone understand why this would happen?
Thanks so much 🙂
