HTTPS and PHP

Not sure if this is the right place for this post but I bet someone will know the answer..

One of my clients has me building a webapp for them which is coming around nicely. From the start of the project (about 1.5 years ago) he wanted to implement HTTPS, but it was no priority at that time. As I had no experience with HTTPS I was quite happy to hear that and didn't mention it again.

So now they're changing hosting companies and they want to start implementing the HTTPS protocol. And I still have no experience with it. :glare:

I was hoping some of you could give me some info. From what I understood so far, a certificate needs to be bought. This certificate can be cheaper or more expensive, depending on the name and reliability of the company you buy it from.

This certificate is installed on the server by the server techies I guess?

And then? Is that it? No tweaks needed for my PHP files or anything?

buy->install-> done

nothing much for you to do, just make the URL's https not http, may want to force that, easy to do in httacess.

cert has to be installed by host if this is a hosted account.

i would buy any sub $100 cert you like, does not make much difference
