so lately i have been noticing some typo type errors and the way i have been writing my sentence has been a bit strange and programming sounding.... So i want to know how many times if you program alot do you end your sentences ";" or add and else and elseif into your sentences i have been doing this alot lately with no intention to do this. So does your programming habits or typing habits suddenly pop up where there not wanted... textual or speech wise.

I usually attempt to be careful with my writing precisely because of the importance of doing the same when programming.

yeah I wrote an email with an if else then realised recipient wouldn't get it.
Rewriting it was a lot more long winded.
I do also wonder if possessive apostrophes will have died out in 50 year's time

I'm usually very good at punctuation, spelling, grammar etc. but the more "quick emails" and fast typing I do, the worse I get

being a brit having to flip between colour and color is a chore

Probably because I'm an old fart, I've never taken to the chat/text message shorthand many younger people use on the web. (I think the number of text messages I've sent via my ancient cell phone can be counted on one hand.) Even in web forum messages I try (even if not always successfully) to use complete sentences, reasonably proper punctuation, and correct capitalization. A quick way for a forum poster here to get me to ignore his/her question is to post something like:

[INDENT]"i have problem where my regexp duz not work i'm trying to get teh part betwean teh <a> and teh </a> can u help me?"[/INDENT]

If you want me to take the time to read your question and then consider taking the time to post a response, please take the time to ask the question in something at least approaching proper English. 🙂

I try to use proper English, however I do fail quite often. Especially when I'm posting something after coding for a couple hours straight. I tend to skip a lot of connecting words that are used in sentence structure (such as commas, the word and, etc) that are not used in coding. Though I've never found myself making these mistakes when talking out loud.

I'm around the same vintage as Nogdog so maybe we can have an old fart's corner

I sent my first text 3 or 4 years ago - but I hate texting so much I do use the short words whenever possible.. that's after I remember to switch off predictive text (doesn't have a default for 'off' on my phone)

I am now only on my third mobile phone - that's over at least 15 years - not bad eh?
and worse... I don't have an mp3 player

Heh...I'm only on my second mobile phone. I've had it so long I'm not even sure how old it is now. In fact, I'm surprised it still works and is compatible with the current cell system. 🙂

I do have an MP3 player, but it's got to be almost as old as the phone and is heavy enough to function as a decent doorstop. (If you tried clipping it onto your jogging shorts while out for a run, you'd end up tripping as those shorts fell around your ankles.) :rolleyes:

I'm averaging about 5 years per phone ATM, I think. It's pretty hard to read the face of this old Nokia 6000 these days.

We'll I'm only 26 and I HATE texting as well, I only ever do short things like omw when heading somewhere but even then, you'll see me when I get there. Most times I leave my cell phone at home because I hate that people can call me no matter where I am ha!

I'm also on my third phone and it hates me, I miss half my calls and voice-mails as they just never get through. But still I wont replace it because its an excuse not to use it =D Tho I do have friends who text 1000's per month I'm more in the 10-15 texts a month if that... I really hate when I hear someone say LOL out loud, and things of that nature because out loud you should just laugh....
