If you're on a computer that does not run Linux but you really want to use vi or such, there is a JavaScript Linux emulator you can run in your browser (technical notes). Runs in Firefox and Chrome, but apparently not in Safari (so not on your iPad). 🙂 I'm not sure if you can actually do anything useful (e.g. save a file to your local disk from within emacs or vi), but it's kind of cool, anyway.
I never got into linux, everything I want to do doesn't work in linux so... (primarily gaming) I always wanted to get into it and learn it inside and out but like... I just know enough to use it as a webserver that someone else installs 😛

... use Vim 🙂
I know, I know...it probably has no real practical value, but that just increases the cool factor. 🙂
PS: The FAQ describes how you can copy/paste text into and out of the tool.
It might be kind of cool if you could hook it into an actual linux box -- a browser-based terminal window might be nice.
a CLI without a host...but....but...but...WHY?
