I have a friend who as a small business and he was asking me about creating a web based records (nothing confidential) application.

He wants customers to be able to log in and look at some past records to be able to better schedule services in the future.

Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I figured you guys would probably know of something.

I looked at hotscripts.com but wanted to hear some suggestions or if someone has tried something that is working for them.

to say you want to manage 'web based records' is extremely broad. most existing PHP software packages tend to be purpose-built for a particular thing: a forum, an online store, etc.

"scheduling services " is also pretty vague.

If you were more specific, you could probably get more specific answers.

He runs a boat yard and wants to have past invoices (without personal information) probably in a PDF format accessible to the customer to view online. Then the customer can see when he last did whatever he did last.

So I guess the customer would log in and see a list of his past invoices and dates . They could then click on one and view it.

It sounds pretty simple and I thought there might be some like this already available.

I don't personally know of a pre-built invoice management system. You might want to try searching for "php invoice management". It sounds fairly custom to me -- like the exclusion of personal information. Also, invoices tend to be specific to the business at hand.

The display of PDF documents from your data is entirely feasible, but this seems to me like an unnecessary step. A customer could print from an HTML document just as easily and this would eliminate all the extra effort required to set up the PDF rendering code.
