Way to test continuous start/end/length

I have a fixed-width database with name, length, start and end points for about 530 fields. Is there a way or pre-made script that tests to see if the values of all positions in the string are accounted for? I.e. end-start=length or some variation thereof?

Here's my thought process:

1. Create an array of all possible positions in the string (hint: use [man]range/man), e.g. from 0 to (length of string minus one).

2. For each 'field' to be measured:

   1. Create temp array of all positions contained within the field range (again, [man]range/man is your friend), e.g. from (field_start_pos) to (field_end_pos).

   2. Use [man]array_diff/man to replace the master array (step 1) with that same array minus the array created above (step 2a).

3. Verify that the master array is now empty. Any values remaining in it have not been accounted for.
