sorting records by date

I am trying to order files by date. Does this need to be changed back to a date object before I can do this?
I guess I am little confused b/c the default date method works but I am using a different date method and now it's not sorting correctly...
hopefully this makes sense...

can someone advise?

Which DBMS are you using? Assuming MySQL, and considering that MySQL doesn't know what objects are, I'm not really sure what you're describing. Are you talking about the DATE column type?

If so, why aren't you using the DATE column type to store dates? That is, after all, what it was designed to do.

EDIT: Oh... I didn't notice the word "files" in your post (I had assumed the "records" in the title referred to records in a database).

In that case, how are you gathering a list of files? Also, what type of date are you wanting to sort them by?

I';m sorry - you are right. I am returning records (not files) and using mySQL....
i'm not sure how to set up a date column through this wordpress plugin that I am using...but I think that is what I need to figure out.
sorry for the vagueness but not exactly sure what I need to do so it's obviously hard to articulate what i want...lol.

Anyway, do you know if there is a way to set up date column using php? or can you direct me?

You need to use some sort of DBMS. phpMyAdmin is very capable and is found on most hosting packages. It depends what kind of access you have to the server your WordPress install is sitting on. What sort of access do you have to the server?
