[RESOLVED] Datediff for PHP

if(strtotime(date("Y-m-d")) - strtotime($lastjoin) < 10){
      echo "You must wait at least 10 seconds before trying to join again";
}

Values :
2011-06-06 17:34:58 =$lastjoin
1307484000 <strtotime(date("Y-m-d")

These codes doesnt works.
I want to check login times,if user tried to login 2 times in 10 seconds,
echo "You must wait at least 10 seconds before trying to join again";

How can i do this?

The reason your code doesn't work is due to operator precedence. You're subtracting either 0 or 1 from 'strtotime(date("Y-m-d"))' and then evaluating it as a boolean.

While you could just use parenthesis to force the desired precedence, note that if a DB is being used (which I'm guessing it is) then you could simply add that criteria to your SELECT statement, e.g.:

SELECT TIMESTAMPDIFF(MINUTE, NOW(), lastjoin) loginDiff, ..

It's 0 because you can't subtract a string from another string - subtraction is only performed on numbers (can you tell me the answer to: "Banana" - "Spork" + "Freebird" ?). Since PHP is a (very) loosely-typed language, it assumes that you meant to convert those strings to numbers and attempts to do so (silently) for you. It does this by reading up to the first character that doesn't make sense.

In other words, it's subtracting 2011 from 2011 and getting 0.

Easy - by using subtraction.

However, you've got to have numbers first.
