adding new nod to xml file

i have searched around this board and couldn't find any explanation of how to add a new nod to the bottom of an xml page for example

<1>
<2>
<3>
</3>
</2>
<2>
<3>
</3>
</2>
</1>
my question is how to add another new <2> at the bottom
another question is how to delete or edit an existing one
lets say i will be searching for a specific <3>
how would i go about doing that

Will the new node be inside a root node ? If not you may want to use the DOM classes, to find a specific node you can use SimpleXML and xpath, very powerful tool.
