Please help with background image and footer

Hello All,

I had someone who redesigned the coding of my forum saying much of the coding in the original phpbb templates I was using wasn't being used. After the redesign, I found that changing the colour.css file no longer changed the background image and I've asked the person to please tell me where I change the coding because I have a new background I want to add. I've heard nothing and I know the guy is very busy, but it has been some weeks now and I want to finish the forum.

I don't have the new templates installed on my forum because the redesign isn't complete without the above. Where would/could the coding be for the background if no longer at the colour.css? I changed the coding there assuming it would change it as before but it did not do so. I asked the guy why and he said he changed the scripting, but hasn't said where after repeated requests. I also want to change the overall footer, but am afraid to do so not knowing if changing it will produce nothing as with the clour.css change. Again asked, again no reply and I've given up asking.

I'm very new to all this and know very little css. I just started the forum a few weeks ago and still don't know all the functions. Any and all help will be immensely appreciated.

Is the forum somewhere live?

Also: If you use firefox: Install firebug: You can then rightclick anything in your website, and get info on the CSS/HTML used for that element.

Well, perhaps the 3rd time is a charm!? I've tried to reply to your kind answer twice before and am apparently able to create threads, but not reply to any.

My forum is at http://www.wslmf.org/forum/ The current style is not what I want to implement, but is similar. The differences being that the color #C1B591 will be transparent on the page allowing the background to show completely, and the text overall will be black for ease of reading.

I hope this one (post) goes through!

So.. the style.php is dynamically generated somewhere, and defines the colors.

Again: try to get firebug installed on your dev machine, as it really helps a lot

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

How does the style.php change if I or another user changes their style preference in the UCP? I'm assuming this is a unique file as I don't find it in the persons files that he altered for the forum.

Also, if I change the overall footer, will it still take effect. I'm confused as to why the changes to the colour.css changed the look of the page before he made the changes to the style, but will not do so in the altered version.

I tried to find your PM info, but am likely not permitted to access it being a newbie. I was wanting to send you a link to the new files so you would have a better understanding of the changes made.

Hi Michael,

Unfortunately, there is not 'standard' way in which these things are handled.

I think you really need to get this developer, or spend a lot of time trying to figure out how things were modified. The fact that your styesheet has thousands of lines, make me worried enough to not really want to dive too deep in your code; I personolly dislike files of that sort of size; You loose overview & most likely have a lot of unneeded info in there.

I think the developer has lost interest, or is just too busy to finish the task. I paid him a little bit and was going to pay more after the finish, but I understand people get tied up with things. It's a shame however as the finished product would have looked splendid.

I'm not familiar enough with css to tackle it myself, even if I had the time. I guess my option is to remove the style folder from the forum and hope that someday someone will come along who can finish the few things that need to be done so it can be put on the forum.

I did temporarily switch the style on the forum and looked at the style.php again, and there was no noticeable change in it. I purged the cache in my ACP and refreshed my browser.

I appreciate your input, but I'll just leave the forum be.
