[RESOLVED] when to define variables

Is it good practice to define variables at the beginning or as you go along? Should you define them before you use them? This was an interview question. I know local scope is inside a function so you would only define local variables inside the function. Maybe they were referring to defining all your global variables at the start of the code? Would that aid readability?

I would of answered "it depends" (most abstract questions can be answered this way) or more fully

"It depends, no i'm not being evasive, but unless you can provide a context the question and therefore answer would be meaningless"

when I started thinking about it the question didn't really make sense that is why I asked. tnx, maybe the interviewer didn't know a good question. I could see doing it all the same way once you get some naming conventions going.
