CSVs to multi-sheet excel

Hi,
I've created a file to export our auction items, sponsors and volunteers for an upcoming event. Currently I'm creating 1 CSV with multiple empty lines separating the sections importing into excel and pulling separate sections into a multi-sheet file. I'm wondering if there is anyway to do this straight from PHP so the file I get is already in the .xls format with multiple tabs, or if I have to continue to do this manually. If you need to see my current CSV creation code I can post it.

there's a couple of php classes for writing xls, i have no direct experience so don't know which ones are better.

Have you tried saving a multisheet as csv and inspect its contents?

When I try to save it as a csv with multiple sheets it tells me

The selected file type does not support workbooks that contain multiple sheets.

To save only the active sheet, click OK.

To save all sheets, save them individually using a different file name for each, or choose a file type that supports multiple sheets.
