Inserting image filepath into a mysql database

Hello

Basically I am creating a database driven website and I want to display images on web pages, the same way clothing stores do like debenhams or the way play.com do with their DVD's.

How might I add an image filepath into a mysql database? I am using my home computer as a server so do I still need to upload my images or can I just place them in a directory on my server?

The path to a file is nothing more than a string, so you'd add it the same way you'd add any other string data.

I don't understand what the difference between those two options are. Upload them to where?
