The name looked familiar, but I had to follow the link to find out who he was.

Yeah, probably a bigger influence on computing today than Steve Jobs, but will likely never have the same name recognition. But then it's pretty hard to compete in that respect against someone whose main strength was marketing and gaining name recognition. 😉

As a die-hard UNIX fan, I know well who DR was. Even had an email from him a few years ago ... responding to some crack I threw his way about Plan 9, I think.

I guess, in his honor, I should finish K&R.

BTW, way too many tech folks in the "gone forever" column recently, I think. 🙁
