That is indeed both interesting, and sad.

Perhaps sadder is that my former next-cube partner, who had just left for
the greener pasture of a job with a shorter commute and the conjugal joys
of marriage, lost her husband of 12 days last week.

However, 84 and accomplished is generally considered a "full life", whilst
24 and "barely started" is seen as tragic.

Time and the question of appropriateness would probably cause me to
shun the discussion of further matters related to life and death. It's very
obvious though that both are worthy of intense, deep consideration.

My condolences to the McCarthy family. As someone who is partial caregiver
to a Parkinson's patient myself, I know that it has been difficult; I hope that
he is recognized for who he was in the fullness of his power, as opposed to
the last small part of his life.
